June 2022 Story - The Wells Family

Meet the Wells Family! Jason, Becca, and Jaxson moved to the Cincinnati area from California this past February. They moved here to be closer to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Jaxson had a very traumatic birth which resulted in him being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP mostly affects movement and muscle tone or posture.

The cause of cerebral palsy and its effect on function vary greatly. Some people with cerebral palsy can walk; others need assistance. Some people have intellectual disabilities, but others do not. Epilepsy, blindness or deafness also might be present. Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disorder. There is no cure, but treatments can help improve function.

Jaxson is mostly nonverbal but can say a few words like mama. He spends countless hours at PT/OT and Speech therapy. He can crawl, stand for short periods of time, walk a few steps. hit a ball back and forth, and crawl up the stairs. They are hopeful he can eventually walk farther distances and talk. The CP effects all of his limbs and muscle movements.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is #1 in the world for CP treatment. The Wells wanted to give Jaxson his best chance at growing stronger. So they packed up their belongings and moved to Loveland. Unfortunately they were unable to pack up Jaxson’s beloved playset. Jaxson LOVED being outside and would swing for hours. He would also use his playset to strengthen his muscles.

When we heard Jaxson’s story and saw that infectious smile we knew we had to get him his very own playset! We started a fundraiser and got to work! We also held a fundraiser at Loveland Skyline. We then talked to Pete Delois from Recreations Outlet in Milford and he jumped at the chance to make Jaxson’s dream playset come true!

His playset was installed in July and within just a few weeks the doctors could already tell a difference in Jaxson’s leg strength. We also showered Jaxson and his family with so many goodies from our Amazon Wishlist. We also gave them a full session with Heather Beckman Photography and a massage from Back to Basic Kneads.

We are so thankful for everyone’s support in making all of this possible and are excited to continue to watch Jaxson grow!

A special thank you to all of our sponsors and individual donors, without you we would not exist. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
