Meet Nikki…a mother of 5 amazing boys, wife to her high school sweetheart, and owner of her very own bakery, Sweet Joy! Just a few months ago you would think she had it all. She had a thriving business doing what she loves, making cookies, a wonderful husband/partner in crime and 5 boys to snuggle and love. But in November of 2022, Nikki received news no mother wants to hear….”you have cancer.”
Nikki was diagnosed with Stage 3, Grade 3B Follicular Lymphoma. After extensive testing it was found that the cancer was found in lymph nodes in her neck, armpits, groin and some larger ones in her stomach. Her oncologist put together an aggressive treatment plan with 6 cycles of chemotherapy given every 21 days.
Throughout the last 6 months there were some ups and downs. Nikki’s hair started to fall out which led to her husband helping her shave her head. She had days she couldn’t get out of bed she had to stay isolated from family and friends, and the holiday’s looked different from past holidays. But Nikki never gave up her faith and after 6 rounds of chemotherapy the doctors let her know that she was cancer free!
The community spent 6 months pouring love to The Alexander Family. Between our fundraiser to help with medical costs and to ease their fear that the bakery would suffer without their #1 baker, to all the Christmas gifts, to our BIG SURPRISE, the community came through and we are so grateful for all their support!
Now to the BIG surprise….thanks to help with our friends at FC Cincinnati, The whole family gets a VIP tour of TQL Stadium along with 7 season tickets!!!! All 5 of their boys play soccer and we are so excited they get to share this experience all together as a family after this hard year!
